Database access checklist

Are you using the correct username & password?

  • Most library resources require the LEA login you use for Blackboard
  • E-reserves require a course-specific login provided by your instructor
  • ARTstor, RefWorks and Scifinder require you to register and create your own login.

Have you chosen the right settings?    Your browser needs to:

Enable Cookies

  • Internet Explorer: go to IE gear icon (Tools) > Internet Options > Privacy > move slider bar to Medium or lower
  • Firefox: go to Tools > Options > Privacy > Drop down menu: "Use custom settings for history" > Check "Accept cookies from sites" and accept third-party cookies
  • Chrome: see video: How to Enable Cookies
  • Safari: go to Settings > Preferences > Privacy > Block Cookies > Do not check "Never"

Disable pop-up blockers (allow pop ups)

  • Internet Explorer: go to IE gear icon (Tools) > Internet Options > Privacy > Pop-up blocker > Uncheck box for "Turn on..."
  • Firefox: go to Tools > Options > Content > Uncheck box for "Block pop-up windows"
  • Chrome: go to chrome menu icon (menu) > Settings > Show advanced settings > Privacy > Content settings > Pop-ups > "Allow all sites..."



Enable JavaScript
  • Internet Explorer: go to IE gear icon (Tools) > Internet Options >
    • Click Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab
    • Scroll down the list and check "Java (Sun)"
  • Firefox
    • Click Tools > Options > Content tab\
    • Check "Enable Java" and "JavaScript" boxes



Note about Workplace Computers / Firewalls
Many workplaces, such as schools, have special firewalls and other security software that may block access to the library's proxy server. If you don't have administrator priveleges on your workplace computer, you will need to consult your system administrator or IT department to change the firewall settings.

Kinesiology Databases

Use our online databases to find journal articles. Many of our databases provide full-text articles that can be downloaded, saved, and/or printed. To access the databases:


1.      Start at the library’s web page:

2.      Click the “Databases” tab.

3.      Click the "Subject Database Listing" to list databases by subject.

 4.      Sign-in with your MyLamar username and password, click “Continue.”

a.       Use Health and Medicine for topics related to physical movement and health (such as biomechanics, exercise physiology, and physical therapy).

                                                              i.      Start with SportDiscus with Full Text

                                                            ii.      You can also use CINAHL or Health Source: Nursing/Academic for more information on medical topics

b.      Use Education for topics related to K-12 teaching (such as PE or health class).

                                                              i.      Start with ERIC or the Professional Development Collection.

5.      Once you’ve accessed a database, do a keyword search for your research topic.

Remember you can ask for help if you don’t get the kind of results you need!
