In May 2025, a Library Service Desk was added to the Old Student Health Center to offer needed services normally located in the Mary & John Gray Library building. The Mary & John Gray Library building will be closed as of noon on May 16, 2025 and will remain closed for the summer.
The Library Service Desk will be open Monday through Friday from 9am to 6pm.
The Library Service Desk will allow you to check out and return physical materials (e.g., print books, Interlibrary Loan items). You can use your Library My Account to place holds on physical materials you need from our library catalog. You can use Interlibrary Loan to request materials you need for your research that the library does not own. In both cases, you will be able to retrieve the physical materials with your Lamar or LIT ID at the Library Service Desk in the Old Student Health Center.
For more information on both services, see the Account Information webpage (link opens to new window).
The area around the Library Service Desk will have two computers for use. There will be no printers for student use.
However, computer labs will be relocated to the Setzer Student Center, Rooms 271 & 273. These rooms will have computers, printers, and laptops that can be checked out. The I.T. Service Desk will be in Room 271.
These directions will reference the Lamar Campus Map (link opens to new window) to help situate the location of the Old Student Health Center.
You can drive to the Old Student Health Center on E. Virginia Avenue. The Old Student Health Center is the building on the right side of the Communication Building. It faces the tennis courts. Parking Lot D-2 is in front of the Old Student Health Center; Parking Lot D-5 is behind the Old Student Health Center.
Below, a graphic containing a screenshot of the map with the Old Student Health Center indicated has been provided.
The Library's physical building will be closed to the public starting at noon on May 16, 2025. All services for faculty, staff, and students remain active; just the physical space will be closed. Library hours can be found on the library's homepage as Today's Hours (link opens to new window). You can also check the link labeled Library Hours on this guide in the box labeled Need Help? Ask a Librarian.
As of October 2024, the parking lot directly behind the library is closed. The parking lot in front of the library (E-5) remains open.
As of November 2024, the library renovation has added a fence around the job site for Phase 1. A covered pedestrian walkway has been added at the library's main entrance; access to the library will continue. Access to all adjacent buildings remains, but typical walking paths are affected. This fence will remain until at least July 2025.
The Tutoring Center has moved to Galloway Room 140. Check the Tutoring Center website (link opens to new window) for more information, including their contact information and how to make an appointment.
The Writing Center has moved to Maes Liberal Arts, Room 113. Check the Writing Center website (link opens to new window) for more information, including their contact information and how to make an appointment.
For the foreseeable future, the Mary & John Gray Library is not accepting most physical donations due to our ongoing Library Renovation.
However, if you have materials that specifically relate to Lamar University Archives or Special Collections that you would like to donate, please contact those departments via their information on the Library's Faculty/Staff Directory. (link opens to new window).
You can also donate money to support the Library via the Lamar University Foundation. (link opens to new window). In the Designation drop down menu, select Other and type Mary & John Gray Library in the box labeled Other Designation.
